Game Of Thrones: The Worst Episode From Every Season

2. Season Seven - Dragonstone

Game Of Thrones The Bells
HBO

This episode has a lot of strength to it. It's got an epic act of revenge from Arya Stark on the Frey family, the return of Daenerys to Dragonstone, and some fantastic development for Sandor Clegane as he atones for his past. But it's also the episode with the Ed Sheeran cameo, yeah.

"Dragonstone" sees both Dany and Arya make their triumphant returns back to Westeros. Alongside this is a political ploy from Cersei as she meets with Euron Greyjoy and the continuing saga of Jon and Sansa attempting to rule Winterfell together.

The issue with this episode is that half of it is incredible, and the other half falls flat. It stands out as one of the most inconsistent episodes in the show, with some great highs but a shocking amount of lows. This worst comes in the lacklustre Sam Tarly narrative, the dullness of everything happening in Winterfell, and, of course, the blatant and unsubtle cameo from Ed Sheeran.

Making a secret appearance in the show was hardly disliked; in fact, it was encouraged, with Coldplay's Will Champion, Always Sunny's Rob McElhenney and many more being great in-jokes for eagle-eyed viewers. But, seeing Ed Sheeran turn and look almost directly down the lens screamed a lazy attempt to appeal to pop culture.
