Game Of Thrones Theories: 6 Reasons To Get Hype For CleganeBowl
3. Trial By Combat
Even though Cersei has repented for her sins with the Walk of Shame, she still has to face trial for the many grievous misdeeds she has committed. And, as always, it's going to be a trial by combat (by this point they could probably do away with the trial by jury option altogether). Ser Robert Strong is set to be her champion; it's the whole reason that he was made. Gregor has already been the champion of Cersei previously, in Tyrion's trial over Joffrey's death, so it's understandable she'd once again be putting her trust in him. Her opposition is the Faith, and they need a champion of their own, which seems a little less obvious. Ser Loras Tyrell would traditionally be a contender, but he has been seriously injured (and in the show is facing persecution himself), and as we know no 'living' man would be able to stand against Ser Robert. However, if the Hound has indeed died, then technically he would not count as a living man. He now follows the Seven, and would be willing to do what they command. The Elder Brother speaks of Sandor's burning desire to kill his brother, and this would give him the opportunity to do that. There is also a vision of Bran's to consider, which seems to point towards this very trial by combat: "There were shadows all around them. One Shadow was dark as ash, with the terrible face of a hound. Another was armoured like the sun, golden and beautiful. Over them loomed a Giant in armour made of stone, but when he opened his visor, there was nothing inside but darkness and thick black blood." This certainly seems to point to the Hound, Jaime Lannister, and Ser Robert Strong.
NCTJ-qualified journalist. Most definitely not a racing driver. Drink too much tea; eat too much peanut butter; watch too much TV. Sadly only the latter paying off so far.
A mix of wise-old man in a young man's body with a child-like wonder about him and a great otherworldly sensibility.
