Ah yes, that ol' chestnut. The Jon Snow theory, that doesn't need any real introduction (Rhaegar Targaryen father, Lyanna Stark mother, Jon Snow the baby, Tower of Joy, Ned Stark, promise me, etc etc). If R+L=J is true (and I'm very much inclined, like most fans, to believe it is) then it could change things here. For one, he would not be the son of Ned Stark, and thus wouldn't have a legitimate claim to Winterfell or the North. For another, instead of being Jon Stark, he would instead become Jon Targaryen (if he is leaving his bastard name behind). That would then throw open even more possibilities for his future, ones that throw him into Daenerys' plot and the Iron Throne and indeed the future of Westeros and the three heads of the dragon. Yet, maybe, he could do both. The show has reportedly filmed the Tower of Joy events, meaning we'll at last get the truth. That doesn't mean Jon and everyone else will, not yet at least. Given the battle won't occur until towards the end of the season, there's a better chance that it'll deal with the conspiracy to make him King in the North this year, saving the major drama of his parentage for later - this makes sense, given it's such a huge, long-speculated about reveal. One of the keys to all of this is, as ever, Howland Reed. A single appearance from him could solve half of Westeros' mysteries. He knows the truth about Jon's parents, and is believed to be aware of Robb Stark's will. Could he eventually make an appearance, and change the balance of Jon's future one way or another - Stark or Targaryen? Probably not for a while yet.
