Season 8 is going to have the kind of end of days clash not seen in Westeros since the Battle for the Dawn, of which we're going to see something of a repeat. It's going to be epic, bloody, and lots of people are going to die. The living have a decent-sized army, but the Night King's got an almost endless supply of soldiers. The longer the fighting goes on, the more people die, the more fresh recruits he can have.

They need something to level the playing field, especially as we still don't really know how powerful the Night King is. Daenerys has two dragons to his one, but then he has already killed one of them, so what's to say he couldn't kill two more? If Drogon and Rhaegal were to fall, then that would leave the Night King almost unchallenged in commanding from the sky, with Viserion breathing blue flame down upon the land. Bran wresting control of the dragon from him would be a means of turning the tide of battle at such a pivotal moment, when all seems lost.

Even if the other dragons don't die, there'd still be a major advantage to be gained from Bran warging into the Night King's dragon. The Night King is a powerful force as is, but he's even better when on the back of such a great winged beast. It's like taking Longclaw from Jon and replacing it with a regular sword: he's still good, but not quite as effective. Even further though, this could tie into how the Night King can ultimately be defeated. Not that simply taking his dragon off him would do that, but it would show signs of vulnerability. And the Night King and the Three-Eyed Raven clearly have previous, so perhaps there's something that can be exploited by a greenseer - some chink in his armour we don't yet know about that could only be exposed by one with this ancient power - and mentally fighting for control of Viserion with Bran could open him up to that. It might be more simple, that Jon or something else kills the Night King, but it'd arguably be more fitting of the story if the biggest threat to the world was taken down by a crippled boy rather than a great warrior.

What do you think Bran's role in Season 8 will be? Let us know down in the comments.
