Game Of Thrones: What Is Greyscale (And Why It Matters)?

3. Jon Connington

Jon Connington is a character introduced in A Dance With Dragons, and one the show have (thus far) left out, altering of Tyrion€™s storyline and seemingly cutting out another one altogether. Connington was Hand of the King to Aerys II Targaryen, aka The Mad King. After he lost a battle to Robert Baratheon€™s allies, and seemingly missed a chance to kill Robert. Aerys stripped him of his lands and titles and exiled him. It was believed he drank himself to death in Lys, until his appearance in ADWD. In the book, the attack of the Stone Men still occurs, albeit in slightly different circumstances. It takes place at the Sorrows, rather than Old Valyria, and it is an argument that distracts them from the ambush, as opposed to a dragon. The show certainly wins on style points there, but the end result is the same, as Tyrion is knocked overboard and Connington saves him. Later it is revealed that Connington has caught greyscale.
