Game Of Thrones: 10 Awesome Characters We Haven't Met Yet

4. Doran Martell

While technically we will be getting our first introduction to the Martells through Oberyn Martell this season, if the show continues to follow the books, their roles will greatly expand going forward. This of course means that we will eventually be introduced to the Lord of Sunspear himself, Prince Doran Martell. Doran is the older brother of Oberyn and the late Elia Martell. He has three children, Arianne, Quentyn, and Trystane. It might strike you as odd that an old man crippled with gout would be considered an awesome character, but what places Doran in this position is his patience and steady hand. Since Doran stayed out of the War of Five Kings, you might think he is neutral to the whole conflict, but this is not the case. Doran wants to avenge his sister€™s death as much as anyone in his family. What separates him from everyone else is that he is in it for the long haul. He does not fall prey to brash decision making; he keeps his intentions as close to his chest as possible. He is the unseen enemy of the conflict; a snake buried in the sand waiting for the right moment to strike. Despite appearing as a helpless old man, Doran is a genuine threat to he Lannister€™s current rule. It is his thoughtfulness and strategic planning that make him a character to reckon with. With the right casting, he should make for a great addition to the show.
