Game Of Thrones: 10 Awesome Characters We Haven't Met Yet

3. Jon Connington

Jon Connington is the former Lord of Griffin's Roost and head of House Connington. He was also a close friend of Rhaegar Targaryen and, for a while, the Hand of the King to the Mad King Aerys Targaryen. After losing the Battle of the Bells during Robert's Rebellion, as well as the war entire, he was exiled to Essos, where to took on the name Griff. At some point, he became aware of Aegon Targaryen's survival and, going along with the scheme of Varys and Illyrio Mopatis, took him under his wing. Jon is very loyal to the Targaryen cause, and part of his motivation in training Aegon for the Iron Throne is to make up for his past mistakes. His past experiences have made him much more cautious and melancholy than he used to be. His goal is now to simply use the rest of his life to see the usurpers kicked off the throne and reclaimed by Aegon. Jon Connington is an admirable character in that he is just trying to do right for what he considers to be his greatest failure: not protecting his friend and his family.
