Before the end of Season 3, fans would be forgiven for saying who? when the name Walder Frey is mentioned. After all, he did only appear in one episode in Season 1 (and that episode was kind of overshadowed by the beheading of a certain central character) and was only mentioned periodically since then. In Baelor, hes portrayed as a slimy, pervy old man whose only purpose is to strike a deal with Robb Stark. Hes harmless and forgettable. But of course thats the point then The Rains of Castamere strikes up, and he has the Stark family killed for breaking their deal. Hes then etched into the minds of Game of Thrones fans forever. For a character who only appeared in a handful of episodes, its a testament to the skills of the incredible David Bradley, one of Britains most underrated actors, that fans still talk about him today. He, along with many other characters in Game of Thrones, defines the phrase love to hate. He has absolutely no redeeming qualities; even other residents of the north look down on him after he broke the sacred guest right at the Red Wedding. However, the show would not be the same without him. Wed like more appearances this season please, HBO.
