Perfectly played by guest actor Julian Glover, Grand Maester Pycelle is one of the most hated characters in Game of Thrones not because hes a ruthless killer, but because hes a slimy, deceptive man who cant be trusted by anyone. Indeed, he conveniently flouts his act of appearing as a frail old man when it suits his needs or when hes visiting one of Kings Landings many brothels. Of course, Julian Glover is no stranger to a villainous role, playing Darth Vaders trusted underling General Veers in The Empire Strikes Back and the treacherous Walter Donovan in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, but there is something especially sinister about his turn as Pycelle. As with many members of the Kings Landing court, his intentions are never clear, but one thing we do know is that he has managed to survive until now through extremely questionable means. We want to watch Pycelle every time the narrative shifts to the capital because although he comes across as this loveable buffoon, hes actually one of the sharpest and therefore dangerous minds in Westeros. Who knows what role hell play into the events unfolding at the moment, but were sure to find out in the coming weeks even if the rest of the characters dont!
