With good reason, the Red Wedding is the most notorious moment in Game Of Thrones so far. The event occurs at the wedding of Edmure Tully and Roslin Frey and is one of the most decisive events in the War of the Five Kings. Following the wedding feast, father of the bride Walder Frey signals to his armed allies, who proceed to massacre the Northern army led by Robb Stark. The first to fall is Robb's Queen Talisa, who is brutally stabbed in the stomach, instantly killing her and her unborn child. Robb and Catelyn Stark are also murdered in the chaos, with Robb's corpse desecrated with the decapitated head of his pet direwolf. For pure shock value, the Red Wedding is one of the most disgusting moments of Game Of Thrones. The scale of the brutality is enormous, with men, women and animals killed at will. Any scene in which an unborn foetus is killed is immediately brutal and shocking. The scene remains a statement of what the Game Of Thrones universe is capable of doing. It's an event that immediately shakes the foundations of the narrative and completely changes the shape of the ongoing war (and show) in unspeakably violent fashion.
