Before Theon Greyjoy became the pathetic servant of torturer Ramsay Snow, he briefly made an attempt to be a badass land-grabber. Betraying his surrogate brother Robb Stark, he led an army of Ironborn into Winterfell and seized the castle. His brief reign of terror brought about a handful of disgusting moments, including the botched execution of Rodrik Cassel, but the most repugnant is the murder of two children and the burning of the corpses. After taking Winterfell, Theon awakes to find that the wildling Osha had seduced him only to facilitate the escape of Bran and Rickon Stark, along with their servant Hodor. Theon attempts to find the two boys, but loses the scent at a farm which they appear to have passed through. Desperate not to lose face, Theon has the farming family killed and burns the corpses, displaying the children's charmed remains at the gates of Winterfell. This marks the true turning point in Theon's character as he immerses himself a little too deeply in the violence and bloodshed required by a major player in Westeros.
