Game Of Thrones: 10 Funniest Jokes In HBO's Long Story Short

Yes, that's the Lannisters as a bowling team. And yes, Jaime's ball is called 'Pinslayer.' That's just one of the gems in HBO's recent featurette.

As part of its campaign to tease Game of Thrones fans to such an extent that the fourth season premiere seems an impossible dream, HBO has released a little history of the making of the show, titled Long Story Short. It features interviews with creators David Benioff and Dan Weiss in which they discuss the adaptation of George R. R. Martin's fantasy tomes and a couple of appearances from cast members. It should be informative if you're into that sort of thing and slightly dull if you're not, but instead it's pretty damn funny. It turns out that the featurette is packed with sight gags, self-deprecating humour and in-jokes, all snappily edited and stuffed into five minutes. In this article we'll be taking a look at some of the funniest moments in the video, so if you haven't seen it yet, you can catch up below. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L2p9dRl0yYo

10. The Infamous Pronunciation Guide

Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire series is actually relatively restrained with its fantastical character names, but that's not saying much when it still features Xaro Xhoan Daxos and the deceptively tricky Qarth. Pronunciation became an issue in the transfer from page to screen and the show decided to address it straightaway with a guide for its actors, which was later released for fans to scrutinise. Of course, the show has such geographical range that inconsistencies such as the variable pronunciation of Tyrell can be chalked up to accents, if you're feeling kind. The guide makes a couple of appearances in the featurette, but it may go unnoticed by show-only fans. For book readers, though, it's a bittersweet reminder of that moment in the pilot when several of us, quite possibly while knowingly explaining the Stark family tree to our uninitiated friends, finally discovered that Catelyn is not pronounced like that.
