There can only ever be one winner for this list and that is of course the notorious Red Wedding. It was an utterly brutal affair which was covered in the mainstream media across the world, with book readers taking absolute delight in waiting for the reactions of TV-only viewers (just look up some of the brilliant reaction videos on YouTube). For the 1% of you that dont recall this monumental event in the series, the Red Wedding saw the death of Robb Stark, his wife (and their unborn child) and his mother Catelyn along with a huge number of Robbs followers. It ended the Northern Rebellion and cut short the Stark claim to the throne which began after the death of Eddard Stark. It was both the drastic nature of the murders of those major characters and the undoing of the typical fantasy notion i.e. a son living to avenge his fathers murder that makes the events at the Red Wedding not only the most memorable death scene in the series but one of the most significant events in Game of Thrones.
