Euron Greyjoy is the younger brother of Balon Greyjoy, current king of the Iron Islands and father of Theon Greyjoy. He is called the "Crow's Eye" and was an important general in the first Greyjoy rebellion nearly twenty years prior to the first season of Game of Thrones. After defeating the Lannister fleet in several important battles, Euron sleeps with his and Balon's younger brother's wife, which causes him to be banished from the Iron Islands. Euron takes a ship and begins to explore the eastern world. Balon Greyjoy meets a mysterious end while walking across a bridge, and the absence of Theon means there is no obvious heir to the Iron Islands. Euron arrives back in the Iron Islands the next day, causing many to question if he had something to do with Balon's death. Euron claims to have sailed to Old Valyria and retrieved a horn to bind dragons to his will, and promises to use the horn to conquer Westeros. These promises lead him to overwhelmingly be chosen for the new King of the Iron Islands. Euron begins to raid the western coast with more and more frequency, and at the end of Book 4, sends his younger brother Victarion to Meereen in order to seduce Daenerys Targaryen and bring her and her dragons back to Westeros. Euron will likely be a relatively minor character in Season 5, but his presence is instrumental in setting certain events in motion. Look for him to appear in 2-4 episodes of the season.
I'm a fan of all things comic book and an avid moviegoer. Trying to catch up on a never-ending backlog of films- maybe someday. Leave me a comment if you enjoy my articles, think I'm a hack, or anywhere in between.
