Game Of Thrones: 10 Most Powerful Warriors

2. Ser Barristan Selmy

HBOArguably the greatest living warrior during the events shown in HBOs show, Ser Barristan Selmy may be old and wrinkly but he can still cut even the most formidable of challengers into ribbons. Even after his abrupt dismissal from the Kingsguard, Barristan forgoes the chance of having a quiet, peaceful retirement; instead choosing to undertake a new challenge by pledging fealty to Daenerys (the second of his Targaryen leaders). There is little doubt that of the many mistakes made during the short-yet-terrifying reign of Joffrey Baratheon, dismissing Barristan and giving one of his most powerful rivals one of her most potent weapons was doubtless one of the most stupid. Selmy may be old but his lifetime of experience slaughtering hundreds of other talented warriors means that he has an appreciation of tactics which no other warriors in Westeros possess €“ indeed, it is this tactical nuance which is part of the reason he is such a valuable asset to Daenerys. As per the books, Barristan entered a tourney disguised as a knight and jousted with Targaryen royalty aged only ten. From this young age Barristan continued to develop into one of the greatest knights ever, both on foot and from horseback. Even after having fought for the losing side in Robert€™s Rebellion, the newly crowned King Baratheon spared the life of Selmy in virtue of his legendary skill and honour as a knight.
