Game Of Thrones: 10 Small Moments That Will Come Back In Big Ways

9. Arya Sends Nymeria Away

The direwolves have played less significant roles in the show than in the series, largely due to the impracticality of including oversized CGI wolves in every scene with one of the Stark children. As such, Grey Wind's death in the third season was not nearly as affecting as in the third book, the warg connections have received little attention outside of Bran's experiences, and many viewers have forgotten about Arya's direwolf altogether. After all, Nymeria has been neither seen nor mentioned in the show since she was chased away to avoid execution following her savaging of Prince Joffrey. Why She Matters: If the show adheres to the events of A Storm Of Swords with regard to the aftermath of the Red Wedding, Catelyn's corpse will have been thrown into the Trident. Nymeria makes a reappearance via her bond with Arya. She finds Catelyn's body in the river and drags her to dry land. The wolf realizes that Catelyn is dead when she fails to wake, but the body is later discovered on the shore by the Brotherhood Without Banners and resurrected by Beric Dondarrion, thus giving birth to the twisted Lady Stoneheart. Also, if the many theories are correct, Arya will make a triumphant return to Westeros and reunite Nymeria. Between Nymeria's feral ferocity and Arya's assassin training, they would be a rather...formidable pair. The admittedly fantastical Lady Stoneheart may wind up as one of the characters lost in the adaptation from page to screen, but there's no way that we've seen the last of Nymeria.
