Game Of Thrones: 10 Things We Learned From "The Children"

3. Arya Says Goodbye To The Hound

Arya finds Sandor at the bottom of the cliff, and he€™s badly wounded. The only way he€™ll survive is if a maester tends to him, and that€™s not going to happen. He tells her to go after Brienne, but Arya doesn€™t want to. She€™d rather go it alone, even if her chances of survival are slim. Sandor asks her to kill him, but she refuses. He attempts to anger her into taking his life by mentioning how he killed her friend and how he should have raped Sansa, but she doesn€™t fall into his trap, remaining silent the whole time. Eventually, he€™s reduced to begging for her to kill him, but all she does is take his coin purse and walk away as he continues to yell after her. Say what you will about The Hound, at least he taught Arya a valuable lesson: the strong live and the weak die. The two have been together awhile now, and even though she€™s learned a lot from him, he€™s still one of the people on her list. She would never have been able to kill him by herself, but with Brienne mortally wounding him, she€™s finally free. Hardened by her losses and motivated solely by revenge, she won€™t allow her captor die quickly, and that€™s why she left him to die a slow and painful death. In her world, mercy is no longer an option.
