9. Tyrion Guides The Army To Victory At Blackwater
Stannis Baratheon storms King's Landing at the end of the second season, and his troops seem to be doing a good job despite Tyrion's tactical employment of wildfire to take out a number of ships. Joffrey is, much to his apparent relief, taken away from the battle, and the Hound high-tails it when his fear of fire gets the better of him. His departure is quite a blow for the Lannisters, since he is as formidable in battle as several normal soldiers. Just when the men are on the verge of giving up the battle, Tyrion delivers a rousing speech to get them onside. They return to the battle by taking a route that takes them behind the invading army and defeat them, forcing Stannis into retreat, and in doing so saving King's Landing. Unfotunately for Tyrion, his part in the victory is ignored as his father Tywin takes the credit despite the fact that he and his men only turned up at the very end.
