12. Riots At King's Landing
Joffrey, Cersei, Tyrion and company are on their way to the Red Keep after having sent Cersei's daughter Myrcella to Dorne on a boat. The starving citizens of King's Landing line the streets, and they call out to the King initially in sarcastic tones of false admiration, whilst begging him for food. He ignores their pleas, which become more aggressive, and culminate in a remarkably well-aimed cow turd being hurled at Joffrey's cheek. As you might expect, it all kicks off as the furious townspeople crowd the streets amid desperate cries from the King to have them all killed. Tyrion watches in horror as a maester is literally ripped apart, and instructs some men to escort Tommen to safety, fully aware of the danger the angry mob pose. The Lannisters make their way through the throng, soldiers killing as they go, but Sansa is separated from the group, and is chased into an alley by some rapscallions. Despite the fact that their beef - or lack thereof - is with the king, they have no qualms about raping the girl. That is, until the Hound steps in and slaughters them all easily. A combination of heinous acts, then: the maester didn't deserve to be hurt, never mind so brutally murdered. And while Cersei and Joffrey might be due a good hiding, Sansa certainly isn't. In any case, attempting to rape anyone, let alone a young girl, is absolutely monstrous.
