Game Of Thrones: 20 Stupid Character Decisions With Terrible Consequences

17. Viserys Antagonises Said Army

In a bid to confirm his bewildering failure at all things politics, Viserys gets impatient with his new allies, gets drunk, and breaks a sacred Dothraki law of bearing steel in their city, Vaes Dothrak. Not only that, he uses that steel to threaten their leader's pregnant wife. Second fatally stupid decision. Crown of molten gold anyone?

16. Catelyn Believes Littlefinger

Catelyn Stark may come across as a level-headed, experienced woman, (she's raised practically the only good family in the world, after all), but I can assure you, she is anything but. After Bran falls from the tower in Episode 1, he lies unconscious in his bed. Catelyn sits by his side day and night, praying to the Gods for his quick recovery. When an unknown assailant attacks Bran late one night, Catelyn heroically defends him, and recovers the dead assailants distinctive Valyrian steel dagger. Catelyn takes the dagger in secret to King's Landing, to show Ned, but upon arrival she is held up by Littlefinger's men and 'instructed' to meet with him instead. Right, OK, why not refuse? What are they going to do? Arrest her? Cause the very scene that Littlefinger is trying to avoid? So Catelyn goes to the secret meeting with Littlefinger, and as it turns out, Lord Varys. Ned is nowhere in sight, as you would imagine. They then compel her to reveal the dagger, which Littlefinger admits is his own. Oh no wait, he 'lost' it to Tyrion Lannister in a bet. Why does she allow them to lead her like this? And she just takes Littlefinger at his word? "I believe you Littlefinger, after all you're known throughout the Seven Kingdoms for your honesty and trustworthiness! Also you just forcibly coerced me into a clandestine meeting that I wanted no part of, in a brothel of all places!" At the very least, she could have stalled until Ned had arrived, made a plan of action with someone she knows she can trust with this vital information, and then proceed to accept their council if she chooses. But no, Catelyn just accepts the first lead she gets as the truth, no matter the source.
