Game Of Thrones: 20 Stupid Character Decisions With Terrible Consequences

15. Catelyn Arrests Tyrion

Now armed with the ironclad knowledge that Tyrion must have ordered the attempt on her son's life, Catelyn makes the worst decision possible when, by the fortunes of the Gods, she encounters Tyrion on the road whilst returning to Winterfell. She is 'taking five' at a roadside tavern when Tyrion makes his appearance. Impressing on the loyalty and duty of the men who happen to be there, and who happen to owe their allegiance to her father ("Hey, I just stopped here for a quite drink, thank you very much!"), she commands them to arrest Tyrion for the attempted murder of her son, based on the circumstantial evidence provided to her by the honourable Littlefinger. Tyrion is taken into custody, an action for which Tywin Lannister responds in kind: by going to war with the Starks. It was your entire fault, Catelyn! The whole mess was your entire fault!

14. King Robert Has Terrible Timing

I love King Robert, I think he's a great character, and played superbly by Mark Addy, but man does he know how to spoil a party! Catelyn Stark has just thrown a spanner into the works by arresting Tyrion for attempted murder, and Hand of the King Ned is recovering after being wounded in a street fight with Jaime. Tywin Lannister is summoning his bannermen to go to war with the Starks, and the peace of the Seven Kingdoms hangs on the edge of a knife. So what does Robert do? He takes a page from George Bush's handbook and plays golf, I mean, goes hunting. Cathartic? Maybe. Appropriate? I think not. Robert leaves King's Landing without a ruler at a crucial point in the brewing conflict: the exact moment when the entire war could have been prevented by a show of firm leadership. Not only that, but he engages a wild boar whilst heavily inebriated, getting himself mortally wounded in the process, and as the meme says: Ruins everything for everyone.
