Game Of Thrones: 5 Best Moments From 'Two Swords'

2. The Melting Of Ice

One of the best scenes of this episode is the very first. In the cold opening for season 4, we see Tywin melting down Ice, the Stark Valyrian steel sword and family heirloom, and reforges it into two smaller swords. As we watch what remains of the Stark legacy be destroyed, Tywin burns the wolf skin sheath, a final act of Lannister victory. This was an act that was only spoken of in the books, so it was so great to see it given a proper scene. The whole moment was chilling in its sadness. Ramin Djawadi€™s score combines both the Stark theme and Rains of Castamere as they weave in and out from each other, creating an atmosphere of tragedy and triumph. It€™s so gut-wrenching. As if the Red Wedding wasn€™t bad enough, this scene rubs salt in the still healing wound. It is beautifully shot, and one of the most emotionally powerful scenes of the series so far.
