Game Of Thrones: 5 Winners & 5 Losers In 'Breaker Of Chains'

2. Lord Tywin

The Hand of the King has bagged himself a winner in the form of the malleable Prince Tommen. For everything that Joffrey was, his little brother isn€™t. Where Joffrey was cruel and malicious, Tommen is kind-hearted and sweet; where Joffrey was stubborn and stupid, Tommen is impressionable and capable of learning. After testing young Tommen€™s ability to identify the most important quality in a king: wisdom, Tywin flat out states that Joffrey did not possess this, nor was he a good king. He then declares that a good and wise king knows what he knows and what he doesn€™t, and heeds the advice of his councilors. Had Joffrey done the same, perhaps he would still be alive. A not-so-subtle way of saying: €œDo what I tell you, and you€™ll probably live.€ It is clear that Tommen respects his grandfather, and Tywin knows this. He will be able to manage and mould Tommen into a king of his own making, a feat he would have never achieved with Joffrey. As it turns out, Joffrey€™s death was not only an opportunity for joy and relief for those watching at home, but a win for Tywin and his Lannister legacy. With Tommen ascending to the Iron Throne, Lord Tywin has the perfect boy-king with which to ensure his family€™s future as the rulers of Westeros.
