Game Of Thrones: 5 Winners And 5 Losers In 'Mockingbird'

1. Princess Shireen

She€™s only cropped up a few times, mostly to teach Ser Davos how to read, and she€™s only spoken about in this episode, but the little princess, Shireen, Stannis Baratheon€™s dermatologically deformed only child, is this week€™s biggest loser because of the conversation between her mother and the Red Woman (or in this instance, the naked woman).

Queen Selyse visits the Lady Melisandre to gain her support against Stannis€™ decision to bring Shireen with them when they leave. Where are they going? Well they don€™t exactly say, but wherever it is, its clearly not a place to bring a child, at least according to the child€™s own mother. Selyse assumes that Stannis€™ decision is motivated by a fondness for his daughter, (Stannis, fondness? Really?), but she is troubled to learn that the reasons are more prophetic than that. Melisandre confirms that Shireen will be accompanying them when they sail, as the Lord of Light has demanded it in the fire. She encourages Selyse to look into the flames herself and see the truth.

Well, whatever €œneeds€ the Lord of Light has for Stannis€™ daughter, you can bet it isn€™t going to be in the best interests of the girl herself. Melisandre literally says to Selyse: €œSee his truth for yourself, however harsh it is, however hard for us to understand.€ Clearly, this isn€™t going to be a fun vacation for the little princess. If past examples are of any indication, Gendry didn€™t exactly have a pleasant experience in the Red God€™s service, and with Melisandre€™s recent penchant for burning people alive in sacrifice to the Lord of Light, things do not bode well for young Shireen.

Did you know: Shireen Baratheon and Daenerys Targaryen are linked by more than the location Dragonstone? (Shireen€™s current home and the place of Daenery€™s birth) They are also second cousins once removed. Stannis Baratheon€™s grandmother on his father€™s side was Rhaelle Targaryen, who was the aunt of Daenerys€™ father, Aerys II (The Mad King). It is because of this Targaryen heritage that Robert Baratheon was able to make his claim for the Iron Throne.
