Game Of Thrones: 5 Winners And 5 Losers In 'The Mountain And The Viper'

4. Gilly

It's difficult to see Gilly as anything more than a career loser, given the hard lot she€™s had to endure her entire life, living under the thumb of her despicable father€“husband, Craster, but another side to Gilly is brought to our attention this week. We€™re talking of course, about her uncanny knack for continuing to survive in the most treacherous of circumstances and encounters. She regularly finds her self in peril; peril that would consistently claim the lives of many others, even the hardened warriors of the Wildling camp, or the experienced rangers of the Night€™s Watch, and yet Gilly remains alive (though surely traumatised). We are made to consider her adaptability when Sam€™s Night€™s Watch brothers are attempting to console him after they receive the news that Tormund Giantsbane€™s raiding party has overrun Mole€™s Town. Sam fears that Gilly is surely dead, and blames himself for having deposited her there in an effort to protect her from the exclusively male occupancy of Castle Black. Eddison Tollett (the sarcastic one) reminds him (and us) that so far Gilly has survived Craster, the long march to the Wall, and even a White Walker: an impressive list of notches on anyone€™s belt. We know that Gilly has now added surviving the attack on Mole€™s Town to that list, which only further serves to demonstrate her impressive track record of making it through fatal trials. Is it simply blind luck, or are the Gods saving her for some as-yet unclear purpose? Either way, Gilly is our most underrated winner this week.
