Game Of Thrones: 5 Winners & 5 Losers In 'Oathkeeper'

2. Margaery

We€™re very sad to see one of the most enjoyable characters, Lady Olenna, depart the show, but if it means that Margaery is now going to have to navigate the political cesspit of King€™s Landing for herself then it€™s probably a good thing €” if she wants to keep her head, that is. When Lady Olenna all but admits that she is guilty of regicide, Margaery is totally baffled. Of course, we never expected the would-be-queen to have played a direct role in Joffrey€™s demise, but to make her aware of the plan, or to at least have her suspicions, would have made sense. It€™s not like there weren€™t any clues along the way. Margaery€™s surprise at her grandmother€™s revelation comes as a surprise to us as well: it appears as though she may not be the keen player that we believed her to be. Boy, does she prove us wrong!

Following her grandmother€™s parting advice, she quickly moves in ahead of Cersei in the contest to control King Tommen. Having Tommen as her ally against his mother is the only way Margaery can protect herself from Cersei. She plays her cards perfectly too, visiting the boy late at night, during his mother€™s imposed curfew for visitors, proposing it be a secret between them. Naturally, this hits all the right buttons in a young boy susceptible to a beautiful woman encouraging him to lie to his mother. Margaery leaves with an invitation to visit in secret again, and gets his mind percolating over the idea of €œowning€ her forever; something that he may not have entirely comprehended just yet, or even realised at all. Be honest, if you were Tommen right now, you€™d do practically anything for Margaery if she asked. Margaery: 1, Cersei: 0.
