Game Of Thrones: 5 Winners And 5 Losers From 'Two Swords'

2. Arya

This one may seem obvious, but for us, the circumstances surrounding Arya's kill at the end of the episode are somewhat contentious to be called a 'win'. To clarify: Arya gets herself into another deadly situation which she has no right to expect to get out of alive, aside from the fact that she knows the Hound will bail her out again. During the fight itself, Arya hides back in the corner and lets the Hound do all the work, before jumping in at the end and taking the glory kill. Very unsportsmanlike conduct, we're sure you'll agree. You could argue that it's actually a cunning tactic €“ after all, Arya, a small girl, is alive, whilst they, a group of armed soldiers, are dead. You could say they deserved it, and they definitely did, but the way in which Ayra goes about it doesn't qualify as a win for me. Why did she make the list as a winner then? Well, the subject of the kill outweighs the nature of the kill. Polliver is the Lannister soldier who captures Arya and her friends and takes them to Harrenhal in Season 2. He takes Arya's sword, Needle, and kills the incapacitated Lomy with it. For this, Arya adds him to her prayer kill list. Arya's list is very important to her character's identity. As a character that has lost everything she once had, vengeance against those who have caused her grievance is now the only thing that gives her any purpose. Killing Polliver strikes another name off that all-important list, and that act alone is enough to give her a win in this episode.
