Game Of Thrones: 7 Characters Who've Changed Beyond Recognition

2. Sansa Stark

Poor, poor Sansa. Her character is the most divisive of those who have survived to season four, especially when she's compared with Arya, whose arc involves more crowd-pleasing set pieces and fewer political machinations. Sansa's love of the court seemed hopelessly naïve amongst the subterfuge in King's Landing and she repeatedly gave her trust away too quickly, but her immaturity has given way to silence in her grief, and it's devastating. The scene in which Tyrion attempts to comfort his young wife is the emotional highlight of the episode, and it's knocked out of the park by both Peter Dinklage and Sophie Turner. Dinklage strikes a balance between kindness and uncertainty as Tyrion struggles to reach Sansa, and Turner is heartbreaking when Sansa responds to Tyrion's encouragement with a blank expression and a few emotionless words. Sansa may not be as likeable as her sister, but she's easily as sympathetic as she retreats into her shell while her childhood daydreams are shattered all around her.
