Game Of Thrones: The Meaning Behind Every Episode Title (Season 4)

Episode 9 - The Watchers On The Wall

This marks the second time in the series that an entire episode has taken place in only one location, and the battle ensuing there; this time at The Wall and The Battle of Castle Black, with the previous example being King's Landing and The Battle Of Blackwater. Both episodes are the climactic "episode nine"s of their respective season, and also share a director, Neil Marshall, who beats his own previously held record here for smallest number of main cast members in an episode. "The Watchers On The Wall" is a quote taken from the oath made by all the men who join the Night's Watch, and highlights Jon Snow's decision to stick with his original oath and to continue serving the Black Watch. This ultimately leads to him having to watch as Ygritte is killed by an arrow through the chest, fired by Olly, a young boy whose father was killed by Ygritte as they ransacked his village.
