Game Of Thrones: The Meaning Behind Every Episode Title (Season 4)
Episode 8 - The Mountain And The Viper
This episode title is fairly self explanatory; the main crux of the episode being the final ten minutes, the trial by combat for Tyrion's innocence. Gregor Clegane, also known by the moniker "The Mountain" - on account of his stature - has been chosen by Cersei to fight to prove Tyrion's guilt; while Oberyn Martell, known colloquially as The Red Viper Of Dorne (apparently due to his agility, acrobatics, and striking style of attack), who fights on behalf of Tyrion's innocence. Oberyn's title of "The Viper", may also be foreshadowing his use of SPOILER poison, or 'venom', on the tip of his spear, which he stabs the mountain with throughout the fight, in much the same way as a viper attacks it's prey. As seems to be a recurring theme in Game Of Thrones, honor does not go unpunished; with Oberyn - fighting to avenge his sister and her families death - receiving possibly the most horrific send-off to date.
