Game Of Thrones: Ranking The 9 Major Houses In Their House Words

8. Hear Me Roar! (House Lannister)

A family as powerful and prestigious as House Lannister are worthy of much more authoritative words. These words are surprisingly uninspired and largely un-intimidating. We all know that the sigil of the Lannisters is a lion, so the phrase €œHear Me Roar!€ comes across as redundant, formulaic, and even a bit childish. With the stature of the Lannister family, you would expect the house words to command respect and strike fear in the hearts of its adversaries. However, the words come across as unimaginative and almost comical. Tywin Lannister probably wishes that his house words were more intimidating to match his own imposing stature, rather than seeming like something that Tyrion would shout at Jaime when they were children. Interestingly, the unofficial motto of the Lannisters, €œA Lannister always pays his debts,€ is actually much more appealing than the house words and it is used more frequently on the show. In the end, the house words of the Lannister clan are disappointing at best. Also, it doesn't help that it's now a Katy Perry lyric.
