5. Joseph Gatt Styr
I've got to admit, House Thenn always interested me. Despite living North Of The Wall where civilised society doesn't really exist, the Thenns attempted to make their own private fiefdom on the Frostfangs, living in a valley governed by Lords and laws. It's an incredibly interesting place George R. R. Martin hasn't properly explored yet although he says he's getting round to it and I've no doubt the people from the area will be interesting too. The guy who's job it is to convey the mystery of the Thenn is Joseph Gatt, who you might've clapped eyes on as the Albino in Banshee. The actor's physically striking, both in terms of his musculature and his otherworldly, distinctive features. So essentially, as his past performance in Banshee shows, he's the perfect choice to play Styr, the Magnar (that's their leader) of Thenn, a bald, battle-hardened warrior from a (temporarily) mysterious land. Of course, the real acid test will be whether Gatt ostensibly hired as a physical presence can handle the fact his character speaks very little English/Common Tongue. Believing themselves to be the true descendents of the First Men, Thenn speak almost exclusively in the Old Tongue, which hasn't been used too much up to this point. Yet I'm sure the show's language guru David Peterson can do it justice, just as he did with Jason Momoa and Dothraki. Plus, he was in Thor, Star Trek and the Wonder Woman pilot, and he wanted to grow up to be Han Solo. What's not to love?
