Game Of Thrones Season 4: 7 Most Intriguing Castings So Far

1.Mark Gatiss €“ Tycho Nestoris

Mark Gatiss It's been hinted at that season will be the one in which you realise that Braavos doesn't just consist of fancy, awesome swordsmen and fancy, awesome Faceless Men, and the news that Mark Gatiss has been cast as Tycho Nestoris makes them extremely apparent. In a nutshell, Nestoris is a representative of the Iron Bank Of Braavos, a king-making moneylender to which the crown is horribly in debt. You might scoff at this, saying that the Crown's in debt to a lot of people/organisations, so why should one bank carry all the gravitas and net next season's most famous acting addition to play one of its denizens? It's because the Bank of Braavos isn't just wealthy, it's stupendously so, and they're not shy about claiming their debts one way or another. In fact, a common phrase goes thus €“ 'the Iron Bank will have its due.' So really, the bank will fit right in among all the political gerrymandering which characterises Westeros, and the fact they exist as a uniquely powerful organisation will fit right into Gatiss's wheelhouse. Simply put, the man's recent roles show him to be excellent at projecting icy, intellectual authority €“ you need only look at his turn as Mycroft on Sherlock Holmes to get that this is a man playing the game several moves ahead of you, possesses all the information and is not one to be crossed. I honestly couldn't think of a more perfect role for the actor (save possibly Doran Martell) €“ Nestoris' weapon is his mind, not his physicality, and Gatiss' gaunt, intelligent-looking demeanour and past roles dovetail neatly with this. Hell, if they do fancy making the character look more threatening (and his very presence in Westeros implies threats of some sort) then it would be a treat to see Gatiss re-enact the creepy-as-f**k yet utterly dominant act he brought to Being Human's Mr. Snow. Seriously, if you haven't seen it, search that one out. It'll give you all the convincing you need that Gatiss can turn intellect into something threatening, menacing and tremendously disquieting. So that's what I think. What do you think? Feel free to comment!
