Game Of Thrones: Season 4 Death Watch (Breaker Of Chains)

2. Themes Of The Week: Fear And The Dangers That Await Us

There was a lot of mention this week of the dangers that await everyone following the events of 'The Lion And The Rose' and indeed season three. At Castle Black the wildling threat was clearly apparent, first when Jon warned the Nights Watch of the might of Mance Rader's armies and secondly that the traitors at Craster's Keep might reveal the true lack of strength in Castle Black's defences to the enemy. The poor man and his daughter who took Arya and the Hound in discuss the constant threat of bandits in the Riverlands while over in Kings Landing, Tywin reveals to Oberyn why he needs the alliance with Dorne to survive. The Greyjoys are in open rebellion, the wildlings are advancing on the wall and a Targareyn girl and her three dragons will be coming for Westeros. Dorne of course, being the nation to truly stand against the Targareyns and that is Tywin needs them as allies, not enemies. It's a good place to recount these threats as the war if the five kings comes to a bloody end, there are greater things in play. it's interesting to note that Tywin Lannister is more open to other threats then closed-minded, power-hungry nobles, like his daughter. The death of Ned Stark, his son Robb and Joffrey Baratheon are small footnotes in greater things to come.
