8. Enter The Red Viper

The casting of Oberyn Martell, otherwise known as the Red Viper, stirred up quite a storm online. While we saw the first glimpse of him in the Vine previews, the trailer gives us a decent look of him and we hear the character speak for the first time. We also get a look at the latest actor to play Ser Gregor Clegane as well, the Icelandic strongman Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson. Clegane is Martell's opponent in the duel that we briefly see and it'll be a reasonably pivotal point of the season. To explain, Martell has come to King's Landing seeking revenge on Clegane. Taking you back into the family politics, Oberyn is the brother of Elia Martell... who was the wife of Rhaegar Targaryen €“ and Clegane raped and murdered her before killing her children during the sack of King's Landing. He also has history with the Lannisters, as at one point it was intended that he should be married to Cersei Lannister when he was a child. He arrives in King's Landing to join the Small Council as a representative of Dorne, as invited by Tyrion back when he was the Hand of the King. Of course, Tywin is not so keen on allowing Oberyn to gain justice for his sister's death at the hands of Clegane and actions are set in motion that result in possibly the most interesting one-on-one duel in the entire book series. On one side you have the fast-moving, spear-wielding Viper, and on the other you have the plate armour-wearing Mountain. It's going to be awesome.
