You can't build up a character to be the best in the show, have him survive very near death in the last episode and give him a chance of romance with Brienne (shut up, we can dream) only to provocatively suggest that he's just been crumbled to death in the collapsing Wall. That is not on.

There is some hope that he and Beric were in the non-collapsed part of the Wall (they did seem to be, if you're an optimist), but that won't make the almost two years we have to wait to see it confirmed any easier to take.
