Gangs Of London: 8 Issues That Hold It Back From Greatness

4. Characters Are Hyped Up And Then Killed Off

Quite a few characters throughout the series were killed off after too little screen-time and this did get very annoying.

As already mentioned, episode five had a bad example of this regarding Welsh gangster Kinney Edwards (a superb Mark Lewis Jones) and his son Darren (Aled ap Steffan) and it was the same for several other characters. We watched Tove (Laura Bach) suffer at the hands of Marian Wallace for an entire episode, then she was suddenly killed off while trying to escape.

That utterly terrifying African gangster, Mosi (Richard Pepple) died after appearing in only three episodes and Nasir (Parth Thakerar), a London Mayoral candidate and the son of a gangster, died a somewhat weightless death in the series finale.

There was also that beyond-stupid scene in which Shannon Dumani brutally killed Elliot's police supervisor despite her being built up as a gentler, non-violent character throughout. What the actual f**k was that about?

There was another huge death (although it might've been a fake-out) in the finale which didn't work, but more on that soon.
