George R. R. Martin's Nightflyers Trailer Reaction: 3 Ups & 1 Down
A new Game Of Thrones?
The first trailer for Syfy's Nightflyers has dropped and, if the short preview is anything to go by, then we should be preparing for a disturbing drama of epic proportions.
The series is based on the 1980s novella of the same name, which was penned by A Song of Ice and Fire (aka the books that spawned Game of Thrones) author George R. R. Martin. Set in 2093, Nightflyers centres around the Nightflyer space vessel and its crew. From what we can gather from the trailer, it appears that the spaceship becomes infected (or in this particular case, haunted) with some sort of antagonistic creature. To keep us in suspense, this antagonist isn't revealed, which raises plenty of questions, and intensifies our excitement for the series' release.
Considering Martin is behind the story, it'll be hard for viewers to resist comparing the project to Game Of Thrones. However, the Nightflyers trailer will hopefully put an end to these comparisons, as the Syfy series doesn't look anything like the popular HBO series - in the best way possible. There's enough in this short preview to suggest that Nightflyers will be compelling enough on its own, so the association with Martin's name is irrelevant. In fact, strong premise and a great cast suggests that Nightflyers could be the one to watch - so to speak.
