Glee: 15 Greatest Moments From The Show So Far
2. Rachel and Her Mother Duet "I Dreamed a Dream"
This performance was so well put together and so well performed that it is the reason I am a fan of the show. I came into this show fairly late, and only watched this episode at the end of the first season because Joss Whedon, my favorite director, directed this. Before I was lead to believe because of all its bad press that I hated the show, but this single performance made me fall in love with it. Not only is the song so wonderfully powerful (Glee is at it's best when doing Broadway numbers) but the story behind it is one of it's most touching, and actually mirrors the meaning of the song from Les Mis if you are familiar with the musical (soon to be a film with Hugh Jackman and Anne Hathaway at the end of the year). Rachel finds a tape in her room (placed there by Jesse) from the mother she has never met. She plays the tape, listens to her mothers sweet message and then her emotional rendition of "I Dreamed a Dream". In a fantasy scene, Rachel duets with her mother (played by Idina Menzel) on stage, but the two perform without ever looking at each other. Lea Michele nor Idina Menzel have rarely sounded better and it is certainly one of the most touching and heartbreakingly emotional scenes I have ever seen on TV. I thank this performance for introducing me to one of my all time favorite television shows. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xp7ARm2Lwdo
