Good Omens - Ranking Every Episode Worst To Best
5. Episode One - In The Beginning
Good Omens suffers as many TV shows do in the first episode with the need for a lot of exposition. There is a lot to explain for the events of this particular story to make sense, and though it is for the most part entertaining still, it does detract from the episode.
This really is the only downside to the series opener, however. The opening sequence with God's narration and the different theories of how the world began is very Terry Pratchett, very satirical, and the first scene with Crowley and Aziraphale lets us know exactly what to expect from the main characters. From this very first scene, both David Tennant and Michael Sheen are incredible.
These two are front and centre for most of this episode, and from being drunk together in the book shop and teaching Warlock right and wrong, they are consistently entertaining and very funny (particularly Crowley's lullaby).
Foreshadowing is important in any good story, and in this episode we see a hint as to what will happen at the very end of the series. During and after Warlock's party, Crowley (the demon) is dressed in white, and Aziraphale (the angel) is dressed in black, foreshadowing the shape shifting that saves their lives at the end of episode six.
