Or that could be a very smart double bluff. Which might be beyond Gotham's reach based on current evidence, but there's still time they could turn it around and surprise everyone. So far the series has been very clearly pointing towards all-out war between the crime families of the city, which would be a pretty exciting turn of events. It would also make sense, since those crime families really don't seem like they get on very well. May also help to refocus the crooked police department if they have no chance but to go after the bad guys, too, which would be a nice bit of character development. That's not the only thing Gotham has been setting up in the background of all that balloon stuff, though. The gap between the rich and the poor has been at least subtext in every iteration of Batman so far, from Bruce Wayne hanging out amongst the underclasses in Batman Begins to the general divide between the mega rich Dark Knight and the mostly homeless and poor population of Gotham. The class war going on in the city was made no more evident in Gotham than during the second episode's opening where the jerks kidnapping street youths accosted one outside of a swanky restaurant, and none of the rich dicks dining out batted an eyelid. At least, until said youth got flung through the window. It was like that bit from Ghostbusters. Slightly more believable. So rather than a war between the crime families, could the season finale of Gotham be a war between the classes? The uppercrust of the city falling prey to all the deprived citizens? An actual class war? Eating the rich? That would be pretty cool and subversive for a mainstream, superhero show. Considering how weird the show has been so far, it could actually happen.
