Gotham: 10 Hints At What's To Come

3. Batboy

Saying that, Bruce Wayne has figured into the show so strongly thus far, Batman could end up arriving sooner than expected. Gotham opened with the murder of his parents, the traumatic life event which would set him on the path to becoming that big rodent dude who swoops out of the darkness and attacks poor people. And already it looks like the young Bruce is beginning preparations for said swooping, having spent the first episode conquering his fear of heights by dangling his feet over the edge of Wayne Manor's roof, the second episode putting his hand over a flame for some reason, and the third having a sword fight with Cockney Alfred. Then there was that time where he sat drawing gory pictures whilst listening to heavy metal (not his theme song, sadly), which...happened. So far Gotham is hewing close to the unwritten rule for the Superman prequel series Smallville: "No tights, no flights." The show might be set in the early days of the superheroes, but they won't ever actually show the superheroes in action. Because it's set before that, see? That's the whole premise. So Batman is almost certainly never going to appear on screen in Gotham, something that'll be even easier to stick to than it was on Smallville. Since, well, Bruce Wayne is currently an actual child. Bruce won't be putting the cowl on at any point throughout, but from the way he's acting, his youthful naivete may see him taking the law into his own hands soon...
