Gotham: 10 Reasons The Court Of Owls Will Enhance The Show
4. The Fall Of The House Of Wayne
If there's one character who has definitely been made cooler in Gotham, it's everyone's favourite man-servant, Alfred. Yes, the guy probably still thinks cucumber sandwiches are actually a thing that should exist, but he has taken quite a few levels in badass. Gotham's Alfred is an ass-kicking machine, a hard man with a soft spot for Bruce (don't be weird), with their relationship being one of the more heartfelt highlights of the show. Sean Pertree takes the 'quivering upper lip Alfred' made famous by Michael Caine and turns him into a man of action who can still show love and devotion. In Night of the Owls, Jarvis Pennyworth, Alfred's old man, wrote a letter to his son in a panic as something stalks him while he trees to flee Wayne Manor. Jarvis (who was basically doomed to be a butler from birth, what that name) states that he does not want Alfred to serve the Wayne family, as he believes the Manor to be cursed. Jarvis recalls Martha Wayne discussing how she was not impressed with a seemingly corrupt Mayor, saying that somethings should be done. Jarvis now believes that the Court has targeted Martha and Thomas but doesn't get the chance to tell his son and save him from a lifetime of humiliation as a butler, because a Talon swoops in and plucks away his life. Gotham could have it so that Alfred somehow got his hands on the letter, adding speculation to Bruce's theory and instantly making him regret every single cucumber sandwich he ever made.
