Gotham: 10 Things We Learned From The New Trailer

1. Jim Gordon Gets His Hands Dirty

Throughout all the Batman films, animated shows and video games, Batman has always gone toe to toe with crime while Jim Gordon is often left to pick up the scraps. He played the role of the messenger, shining the Bat Signal in the sky and waiting to send the hero off on his next mission. Gotham clearly has other plans. Gotham has taken inspiration from Frank Millar€™s Batman: Year One, which depicts a younger Jim Gordon, a skilled hand-to-hand fighter, excellent marksman and a dangerous man to cross. He will no doubt play a prominent role in bringing the Wayne family killer to justice. He is clearly a man of honour, who does not take promises lightly and leads the investigation. There are very few shots in the trailer where Gordon is not scarred, bloodied and showing the after-effects of his police work. One scene reveal shows Gordon interrogating the Penguin. There is blood on both of their faces and Gordon pushes the criminal off the pier, proof of just how far he is willing to go. His stare-down with Fish Mooney is also evidence of this; he is unafraid of criminals and as Gotham prepares itself for war, he is definitely the man you want to be with you in the foxhole. Ben McKenzie is a good choice to play Gordon, who from the trailer alone appears to have brought the same intensity to the role he did with his complex police officer in Southland. He is clearly a man angry at how crime is so deeply integrated into Gotham€™s society, often rendering him helpless. This could well be the catalyst that pushes Gordon further, and presents a unique portrayal of him to viewers. Concerned fans; has the trailer put your mind at ease?
