9. Ace Chemicals (Season 5, Episode 7 - 'Ace Chemicals')
In contrast to a lot of scenes in Gotham, the one in discussion here didn't have too many secrets hiding up its sleeve. The showdown between Bruce Wayne and Jeremiah Valeska (Monaghan) was lifted straight from the comic-books and was a key moment in their developing rivalry.
Gotham put their own twist on the scene. Jeremiah already had his signature acid-wash skin. Instead, the chemicals burn and rot away at him providing Jeremiah with a look unlike any other Joker. Thematically, it seemed fitting that Jeremiah's appearance started to show physical decay right as Bruce was starting to overpower him in their ongoing rivalry.
When Gotham began in 2014, Bruce Wayne was introduced to us as a child. To see the same character command such a physical presence in this scene - in the final season - was a great pay-off. Gotham truly did Bruce Wayne justice in showing his journey into becoming Batman.
Monaghan was great as always. Both him and Mazouz really did work well together. They may have been a lot younger than a lot of previous Batman/Joker pairings we've seen, but they weren't phased by this and undoubtedly made the roles their own.
