We gave the makers of Gotham a bit of crap back there but, honestly, they did a good job at putting in some more obscure Easter eggs for eagle-eyed fans amongst all of the more blatant signposting that THIS IS A THING FROM BATMAN HISTORY, YOU ALL KNOW WHAT IT IS, COME AND LOOK AND TELL US HOW SMART WE ARE FOR PUTTING IT IN! Which it does a fair amount of. Far more elegant are the things like the part where Bullock, getting shwasted on shots in a dive bar, calls Gordon up in the middle of the night and tells him to meet him at the corner of "4th & Grundy" in an hour so they can chase a possible lead. What's that mean? Is that some sort of famous street in the Batman comics or something? Not even close. The "Grundy" in "4th & Grundy" refers to a more obscure member of the Dark Knight's roster of enemies that we're unlikely to see in this more grounded version of Gotham City, which means it's okay to use his name for little shout outs like this. Solomon Grundy, who takes his name from the nursery rhyme, probably isn't a good guy to leave your kids with. Because he's a zombie. A huge, hulking, ghostly white zombie with super strength and stamina who is virtually indestructible and immortal thanks to the elemental energy that imbues his form with pseudo-life. Yep, that's what Grundy means. Save him for season eleven, we think.
