Gotham: Every Major Villain Ranked From Worst To Best

3. Jeremiah Valeska (Seasons 4-5)

Gotham Jerome
Fox

Gotham wouldn't be a prequel to Batman without an appearance from the iconic Joker - or two. Jeremiah Valeska was the latter of the two. Played by the phenomenal Cameron Monaghan, Jeremiah's storyline culminated in a scene we are all familiar with - the showdown between 'Joker' and Bruce Wayne at Ace Chemicals.

Monaghan had already won Gotham fans over with his portrayal of Jerome Valeska and so, it's no surprise that his performance as his brother Jeremiah also went down a treat.

At first, Jeremiah appeared to be the complete opposite of Jerome - calm, collected, intelligent, sane, and most importantly, moral. Essentially, it was over only six episodes in Gotham's fourth season that Jeremiah quickly transitioned from this into Gotham's most feared villain.

So much of the success of the character was down to Monaghan and he deserves all of the attention he got from the role. Gotham's writers also earn huge props. Jeremiah was only ever referred to as The Joker in Gotham's promotional footage but there's no doubt that Monaghan's performance will long be heralded as one of the best.
