Gotham: Every Season Ranked Worst To Best
1. Season 5
Gotham's final season sparked a bit of concern among fans, because it not only had to condense something of a five-year story into one season, it had do it with only 12 episodes. But boy, did it ever pull it off!
The fifth season loosely adapted the No Man's Land comic book arc and, in spite of how ambitious this was, this arc actually imbued the show with its most coherent narrative, with the city's separation from the rest of the world making it feel more confined and invasive than ever before - and, by extension, nailing the essence of Gotham City.
Gordon's attempts to restore order to the city were met with friction by long-time criminals like Penguin and Riddler, who had taken over and claimed various neighbourhoods for themselves, while threats like Talia al Ghul and Bane sought to destroy what remained of Gotham. And then there was Jeremiah Valeska, whose attempts to push Bruce closer to his destiny resulted in he himself coming that much closer to The Joker he seemed destined to be.
There's no overstating it, Gotham pulled off one hell of a feat with its final season, offering up a string of episodes that paid tribute to its source material, wrapped up its overarching story, and completed its characters' evolutions into their comic book counterparts.
Season 5 of Gotham was, without question, the show's most ambitious and enthralling adventure - and one heck of a high to go out on.
