Gotham: Every Season Ranked Worst To Best

2. Season 3

Gotham Season 5
Fox

The season in which Gotham really threw itself into the abyss of wacky and wonderful originality, Season 3 told a multifaceted story involving love, betrayal, homicidal blood and the Mad Hatter.

All of which is just a typical Monday in Gotham City.

The first half of the season was arguably the best that Gotham has ever been, as Gordon became something of a bounty hunter to tackle the escaped creatures from Indian Hill. However, his mission got sidetracked when good old Jervis Tetch showed up and made Jimbo's life a living hell. In the role of Tetch, Benedict Samuel did an excellent job as the primary antagonist. And this all also led quite nicely into the return of Jerome Valeska, as the potential future Joker came back to life and went all Dark Knight Returns at the circus.

Sadly, the second half of Season 4, however, couldn't quite live up to expectations.

The Court of Owls were fine villains, but the whole ancient order thing felt like it had been played out in Season 2 with Azrael, and this element went a little off the rails towards the end of the season. That said, The Executioner proved to be a nice thread for the two separate arcs, tying them together rather well, and the season-long dynamic between Oswald and Ed was the best material that the pair had to work with, creating arguably the show's most iconic partnership.
