Gotham Season 3: 5 Ups And 5 Downs From 'Anything For You'
2. Mad At The Hatter
For the last two episodes, Jervis Tetch gripped the cumulative throats of the audience and refused to let go until they were within inches of falling asleep for good. He was not crazy for crazy's sake; he had motive (although twisted) and malice, all for his Alice.
Cut to the final scene of Anything For You and the escaped Jervis, despite being surrounded by mise-en-scene that beautifully captures how how would see the world, seems as if he has become just another corny villain obsessed with the demise of Jim Gordon.
As soon as he sliced the throat of his fake 'Alice', I felt that Gotham had turned the character from phenomenal to nearly forgettable. Had they stuck with the theme that he made his Alice 'want' him, it would have kept his aura intact and his presence undeniable. I cannot believe I am advocating for a psychopath to also continue being a pedophile but Gotham seems to have made a mistake with the Hatter that I hope they rectify.
We don't need another MWAHAHAHAHAHA-HACK-COUGH-SPLUTTER villain in our midst.
